Chandigarh(24/04/2025): Sukhpal Singh Khaira, Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA), strongly condemns the Bhagwant Mann-led Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government for its blatant infringement on the rights and duties of elected opposition representatives. The government has been encouraging unelected so-called “Halka Incharges” to lay foundation stones for various government school projects under the so called Sikhya Kranti program in Punjab in gross violation of established rules and regulations governing official functions.
This unconstitutional practice undermines the democratic process and disrespects the mandate of elected MLAs, who are the legitimate representatives of the people. Such actions by the AAP government reflect a deliberate attempt to sideline opposition voices and erode the principles of democratic governance.
“We, the opposition MLAs, have formally written to the Chief Secretary of Punjab, Shri KAP Sinha, urging him to intervene and immediately halt these unconstitutional measures,” said Khaira.
“These actions not only violate protocol but also set a dangerous precedent for governance in Punjab.”
Khaira further warned that if the Chief Secretary fails to take prompt and appropriate action to rectify this issue, the opposition MLAs will be compelled to approach the Punjab & Haryana High Court to seek justice and uphold the rule of law.
“We will not allow the Bhagwant Mann government to trample upon the rights of elected representatives and the democratic fabric of Punjab. The people of Punjab deserve transparent and accountable governance, and we will fight to ensure their voices are heard,” Khaira added.
