Jalandhar(30/04/2025): The President of the Bar Association, Mr. Aditya Jain, and Secretary Mr. Rohit Gambhir, representing the sentiments of the legal fraternity, stated that the Bar will always stand united to uphold the dignity, safety, and justice for advocates.
Other office-bearers of the executive committee — Senior Vice President Mr. Ram Chhabra, Junior Vice President Mr. Suraj Pratap Singh, Joint Secretary Mr. Sahil Malhotra, Assistant Secretary Mrs. Sonalika, and Executive Members Mr. Prabhu, Vijay Mishra, Paras Chaudhary, Amanat, and Payal — also fully participated in the protest and unanimously supported the Bar's decision.
The incident of the respected member of the Bar, Advocate Mr. Sanjeev Verma, going missing since last Saturday has deeply shocked the entire legal community. According to media reports, some individuals have been arrested in connection with his abduction, and one of the accused has allegedly confessed to his murder. This is not only painful but also poses a serious challenge to the justice system. The Association strongly condemns this heinous act and demands from the administration a fair, prompt, and stringent investigation, with severe punishment for the culprits.
Additionally, the Bar expressed deep resentment over the raid conducted by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) at the residence of Advocate Mr. Parminder Singh Vig and the allegedly unlawful behavior with him. Detaining him and seizing his mobile phone without due legal procedure goes against the fundamental principles of legal freedom. The Association has sent a formal letter of objection to the NIA via a registered email, but neither a response has been received nor has the mobile phone been returned.
Former Presidents Mr. Gurmel Singh Lidher, Mr. Raj Kumar Bhalla, Mr. Om Prakash Sharma, and Mr. Balwinderjit Singh (Lucky) also expressed solidarity with the Bar and marked their active presence.
On this occasion, several other senior advocates and members — Mr. Sanjeev Bansal, Tejinder Dhaliwal, Rakesh Dheer, Amarinder Singh Thind, Rajinder Mand, Sunny Kaul, Suraj Prakash Laddi, Harpreet Singh, Dheeraj, Pritpal, Sanjeev Kamboj, and Surinder Mohan Bhagat — were also present and fully supported the 'No Work Day'.
The Bar Association clarified that this movement is not for any individual, but for the dignity, independence, and safety of the entire legal fraternity. It reiterated that the Bar is committed to fighting at every level to protect the rights of all its members.
